Q1. What is the difference between Class 1 and Class 2 Bluetooth Adapters

A. The major difference between Class 1 and Class 2 Bluetooth adapters is the distance over which they can communicate. A Class 1 adapter provides greater flexibility by enabling communication over 100 meters. To provide this long distance communication, Class 1 Bluetooth adapters typically use external antennas. Class 2 Bluetooth adapters can communicate only over 10 meter distances.

Q2. Under which Operating Systems are my Quatech Bluetooth adapter supported?

A. See the online driver information page for the very latest driver support available for Quatech Bluetooth adapters.

Q3. What kind of Bluetooth Devices can I communicate with using Quatech Bluetooth adapters.

A. You should be able to communicate with any standard Bluetooth device using Quatech Bluetooth adapters.

Q4. How do I install my Quatech Bluetooth adapter?

A. To install a Quatech Bluetooth adapter simply place the Quatech Bluetooth CD (it should have shipped with the product) into your computer and then select install from the menu options. (If you have autorun disabled on your computer, you will need to run setup.exe). Be certain that you install the Bluetooth adapter software BEFORE you plug the bluetooth adapter into your computer.

Q5. I can't transfer files from my Nokia 7650 to my PC. How can I fix this?

A. If you are having problems sending files for a NOkia 7650 to your notebook or PC, follow the steps below:

  1. Execute"regedit" from the Run command (Start-->Run)
  2. Locate the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\Services\0004, and locate the entry "Accept Other."
  3. Set this key to 0x0000001 (Note: If the "Accept Other" key does not exist, simply create it, using type DWORD, and then filling in the value.)
  4. Save and exit Regedit.
  5. Reboot if necessary. You should now be able to send files from your Nokia 7650 to your notebook or PC.

Q6. Why do some Bluetooth devices that are within the connection range not show up in the list of devices found?

A. Your Quatech Bluetooth adapter is configured to report only specific types or classes of devices, and will not detect a device that is programmed to be "non-discoverable.. You can determine the type of devices you are able to find, and change this configuration using the Bluetooth Configuration Panel on your device. Use the Discovery Tab (Bluetooth Configuration Panel-->Discovery Tab) to determine the type of devices you can see. Use the Accessibility Tab on the device you are attempting to connect with (Bluetooth Configuration Panel-->Accessibility Tab) to determine and/or change whether the device is discoverable or non-discoverable.

Q7. I can't connect to a paired devices listed in "My Bluetooth Places." What is wrong?

A. Paired devices are always displayed in My Bluetooth Places, even if the remote device is out of range or not powered-up. Verify that the remote member of the pair is within radio rage, and is powered-up, nad then atetmpt the connection again.

Q8. I can't discover services on an un-paired remote device. What is wrong?

A. The remote device may not be powered up, or may be out of range. Follow the steps below to trouble shoot the device:

  1. Verify that the remote device is powered up
  2. Verify that the remote device is in Connectable mode (Bluetooh Configuration Panel-->Accessibility Tab)
  3. Perform a search for Devices to verify that the device is within range

Q9. I can't get dial-up networking service to start. What can I do?

A.The Dial-up Networking service will not start unless a properly configured modem is attached to the server. To verify that the modem is useable as a local device on the computer to which it is attached, follow the steps below:

  1. Select the Local Services Tab from the Bluetooth Configuration Panel (Bluetooth Configuration Panel-->Local Services Tab)
  2. Double-click "Dial-up Networking Services"
  3. Click the down arrow in the Modem field and select the modem that will be used to dial out.
  4. Click the "OK" button to close the Bluetooth Configuration Panel.
  5. Now, try again to dial out, the connection should be working.

Q10. How do I determine the Bluetooth device address (BDA) for my hardware device?

A. To determine the BDA address for your hardware, see the Devices section of the Hardware Tab in the Bluetooth Configuration Panel. (Bluetooth Configuration Panel-->Hardware Tab-->Devices Section) Select the device in question in the Devices section, and see the fourth entry of the Device Property dialog box. This "Device Address" is the BDA of the selected Bluetooth Device.

Q11. How do I determine which version of the host controller interface (HCI) I have?

A. Go to the Device Properties section on the hardware tab in the Bluetooth configuration panel (Bluetooth Configuration Panel-->Hardware Tab-->Devices Section). The fifth entry in the device properties section provides Bluetooth specification compliance information for the HCI. The sixth entry contains the specification revision information for the host controller interface, if appropriate.

Q12. How do I determine the version of the link manager protocol (LMP) I am using?

A. Go to the Device Properties section on the hardware tab in the Bluetooth configuration panel (Bluetooth Configuration Panel-->Hardware Tab-->Devices Section). The seventh entry in the device properties section provides link manager protocol version number information. The eighth entry contains the limk manager protocol sub-version number information, if appropriate.

Q13. How do I find information about the Bluetooth hardware attached to my computer?

A. The Hardware Tab in the Bluetooth Configuration Panel (Bluetooth Configuration Panel-->Hardware Tab)provides detailed information about all Bluetooth hardware attached to the computer.

Q14. Internet connection sharing doesn't work. How can I fix it?

A. This occurs because Internet connection sharing was enabled when Bluetooth was installed (this is a Microsoft Windows behavior, and is considered proper operation.) To fix your problem, follow the steps below:

  1. Disable sharing for the Ethernet adapter
    1. Go to Windows Control Panel-->Network and dial-up connections
    2. Richt-click on "local area connection" select "properties" and then select the "Sharing tab"
    3. Clear (uncheck) the box for "enable internet connection sharing for this connection" and click "ok"
  2. Re-enable sharing for the Ethernet adapter
    1. Repeat steps above, this time selecting (checking) the sharing box.
    2. If offered an option to select an adapter, select "Bluetooth network adapter" (This option will not appear unless more than one adapter is available.)
    3. Reboot the computer if necessary.

Q15. How do I test a network access connection?

A. If the client is hardwired to the LAN, unplug the hard-wired connection to ensure that the Test checks the wireless connection rather than the hardwired connection. If the server has access to the Internet, open a browser on the client and connect to the web. You can also text by pinging the server from teh DOS Command prompt.
