Quatech Announces a New Synchronous Communication PCI Board

The MPAC-100 provides a single RS-232 synchronous port to a PC

Akron OH, September 18--Quatech Inc., a leading manufacturer of data communication and data acquisition products for PC-based systems, today introduced a new PCI board which provides a single synchronous RS-232 serial port to a PC. With this announcement, Quatech further expands one of the most complete serial communication lines in the industry, and becomes one of only a few suppliers to provide a synchronous serial interface via the PCI bus.

Quatech's MPAC-100 is ideal for many high-speed applications including satellite monitoring, radar control, GPS systems, and a wide variety of military and commercial systems that require the additional security and intensive data integrity protocols provided by synchronous communication implementations.

The new MPAC-100 provides a single RS-232 interface that supports byte-oriented synchronous protocols such as IBM BiSync, and bit-oriented synchronous protocols including HDLC and SDLC. The board is equipped with 1024-byte transmit and receive FIFOs, and supports interrupt-driven communication. With the FIFOs enabled, data can be moved to and from the SCC in large blocks, providing data speeds up to 600 kbps and low interrupt overhead. The SCC also provides a programmable baud rate generator and digital phase-lock loop (DPLL) for recovering data clocking from received data streams.

Quatech includes SyncDrive® software with all MPAC-100 boards. SyncDrive is a synchronous communication driver for use in a C programming environment that provides frame-level programming support for bit- and byte-oriented synchronous protocols (BiSync, HDLC, SDLC). Quatech engineers are also available to assist with MPAC-100 programming projects including driver development and application modification.

Quatech's new MPAC-100 RS-232 synchronous PCI board lists for $449. For more information about the new board, or to arrange a consultation with a Quatech application engineer, please call 1-800-553-1170, e-mail sales@quatech.com, or visit Quatech's website at www.quatech.com.
