FOR RELEASE October 19, 2001
Quatech Announces Entry into Low Profile PCI Market
New Product Line Provides Serial Connectivity to Embedded Systems
and Thin Clients
Akron OH, October 19--Quatech Inc., a leading manufacturer of data communication
and data acquisition products, today announced that it will soon be introducing
a line of serial Low Profile PCI boards. With this introduction Quatech extends
the reach of their extensive PCI design expertise, and further enhances one
of the most complete serial data connectivity lines in the industry.
Low Profile PCI was designed to provide greater flexibility for embedded systems
and thin client workstations such as IBM's NetVista Series N2800, Dell's Optiplex
GX Series, and Gateway's E1600se. The boards are mechanically and electrically
similar to standard PCI boards, but use a shorter board and a different mounting
bracket. They are designed to fit into systems as low as 3.350" with
out using riser cards. The boards are built on 32-bit addressing, and can
be used in standard PCI backplanes or with specialized Low Profile PCI brackets.
Quatech's upcoming line of Low Profile boards leverages the company's extensive PCI
expertise to provide the same rich features found in their standard PCI boards,
such as four-layer board design, shared interrupts, 16-byte FIFOs, and enhanced
board speeds of up to 921.6 kbps. As with all their PCI boards, Quatech's
Low Profile boards strictly adhere to the PCI specification standards. For
example, Quatech Low Profile boards, unlike those of some competitors, use
a universal connector compatible with both the 3.3 volt connector key required
by the specification and the 5V connection used by older PC and thin client
systems. This means that Quatech Low Profile boards can be used with current
equipment and will not need to be replaced as systems are upgraded.
The first products in the new line will be one, two and four port RS-232 asynchronous
serial boards built to the MD1 Low Profile size specification. Also under
development are eight port asynchronous serial RS-232 boards, and multiport
asynchronous serial RS-422/485 boards. Pricing for the new products will be:
SSCLP-100 (one-port RS-232): $109, DSCLP-100 (two-port RS-232): $159, QSCLP-100
(four-port RS-232): $229
