Gateway chose Quatech for its proven ability to ensure seamless integration of serial-based POS and ticketing hardware into systems limited by USB-only expansion options. Galaxy Admission Control and Revenue Management software is an award-winning total POS system solution designed for the recreation, entertainment and transportation industries. Galaxy 2 includes Unified POS Device Support, a unique feature that simplifies customer maintenance but also demands a robust and reliable serial communications architecture. "We reviewed several connectivity solutions before deciding on Quatech," said Darryl Moser, vice-president of Gateway Ticketing Systems. "We chose their USB to Serial Adapters because it enabled us to connect over seven peripheral devices to each POS, where a number of ticketing-specific peripherals are offered only in serial interface. In addition, their adapters provide solid performance and proven in-field reliability at an attractive price point." "Quatech and Gateway Ticketing Systems share an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction," said Steve Runkel, Quatech's President and CEO. "We are gratified that they have selected our USB to Serial Adapter for their Galaxy 2 system, and we are confident that our product will provide the speed and flawless performance required to ensure a positive user experience." In the latest project to employ Quatech's USB to Serial Adapters, Gateway Ticketing Systems designed an admissions control and revenue management system for a major public transportation provider. It combines a POS system that provides machine-generated and readable tickets and Smartcards purchased from Kiosks or via the Internet. It also interfaces with turnstiles for access control, and provides automated back office accounting and banking applications. Quatech's QSU-100 4-port USB to RS-232 serial adapter provides additional ports for peripheral devices connecting to this PC-based system including a thermal ticket printer, a barcode scanner, a mini barcode scanner, a Smartcard reader/writer, check reader, a signature capture device, and a text inserter for a digital video recorder. The QSU-100 provides 4 independent RS-232 serial ports that function exactly like a computer's native COM ports. Quatech USB serial adapters are also available in 1, 2, 8, and 16 port versions for both RS-232 and RS-422/485 communications. All are port-powered, provide data rates up to 460.8 kpbs, and are compatible with Windows® 98, Me, NT, 2000 and XP. Quatech also offers the industry's most complete line of data connectivity products for desktop, network, mobile, embedded and standalone systems. A catalog and specifications for all of these products, and for the QSU-100, are available online at www.quatech.com.
