Description
The power and flexibility of the 400 series is derived from the industry's
best processor, a PowerPC® from Freescale (formerly Motorola®
Semiconductor). This processor is part of a world-class architecture that
offers the lowest latency available anywhere. In addition, the auto-sensing
10/100 Ethernet interface, and Quatech's proven high-speed, 921k-baud
serial technology offer the best performance in the industry and ensure
that your critical business applications won't be harmed by data throughput
issues.
The new 400 Series models introduce a new software-selectable, RS-232
/ 422 / 485 multi-electrical interface (MEI) to the ThinQ product line.
They are currently available in one and two port units, but higher port
counts will be released in 2005. Unlike many competing two-port models
on the market, the DSE-400D has MEI on both ports. Already the performance
leader, the DSE-400D is now the flexibility leader as well.
An intuitive Installation Wizard gets ThinQ up and running in just minutes,
automatically searching local and remote subnets for the correct model
attached. Network settings automatically assigned by DHCP networks are
displayed for confirmation, or change to a static IP address easily using
the Installation Wizard - no Telnet sessions, MAC address data entry or
special cables are needed. ThinQ can be managed through the Windows®
Device Manager interface or a Web browser, for continued ease of configuration
and maintenance long after the initial installation is completed.
Do you have two serial devices that communicate directly with each other
and you wish to replace the short serial cable using the distances made
possible with Ethernet technology? The serial tunneling feature now available
on every ThinQ model can do this much easier than you imagine. Set up
one ThinQ unit as the master, tell it the IP address of the remote ThinQ
unit, and plug them both in. The master will locate and configure the
remote unit for you, right out of the box! The two serial devices will
then communicate as if connected by a short serial cable; the Ethernet
portion will be invisible to the devices.
For remote service and monitoring applications, try our new AutoTCP feature.
The serial port can be set up to act as a TCP Client, requesting a connection
whenever the serial device is attached and powered on or, if you prefer,
whenever serial data is ready for upload to the host computer. You can
leave the connection on, or disconnect from the host after a specified
period. But when a service request from a remote monitoring PC (with a
specified IP address) arrives, ThinQ will act as a TCP server, allow access
to the serial device to the monitoring PC, and go back to Client mode
when the Server session is finished. This is perfect for remote troubleshooting,
support and report generation!
Quatech's "virtual" COM drivers and the Installation Wizard
are available for Windows NT4/2000/XP and Linux. ThinQ can be deployed
successfully in almost any OS environment however, including Unix and
Solaris, via Raw TCP (socket) mode or Quatech's exclusive IntelliSock
mode. IntelliSock is a flexible and powerful TCP socket service for custom
applications that provides capabilities beyond that of Raw TCP mode, such
as re-configuring the serial port in the packet header sent with each
data transfer. A free Software Developer's Kit (SDK) explains more about
this unique feature.
The 400 Series ports can be configured for RS-232 or for RS-422 or RS-485
asynchronous communication in either full-duplex or half-duplex mode.
ThinQ units are housed in a solid metal case suited for rugged industrial
environments, and DIN rail mounting kit and surge suppression options
are available.
