Medical Applications--USB to RS-232 Serial Adapters

Application: Diabetes Testing
Quatech Products Used: USB to RS-232 serial adapters

Diabetics must test their blood sugar levels often (sometimes more than 5 times a day) in order to make informed decisions about medication dosages and food consumption. Many of the testing meters available can store these readings for subsequent download and computer analysis. The meter software not only accesses all of the stored blood sugar reading, it performs helpful analysis such as average glucose level by time of day and day of week. It can also be used to track glucose levels at preset meal times, or highlight the number of readings above or below a preprogrammed "ideal" range.

The meters often require a serial port to connect to the computer. Quatech's USB to serial adapters can provide this connectivity to computers without serial port, or to those needing an additional port to access the meter. Our customer is using the DSU-100 to provide these ports, but any of Quatech's serial connectivity products would work equally well.
