Banking Applications--USB to RS-232 Serial Adapters

Application: Banking Teller Station
Quatech Product Used: HSU-100 sixteen port USB to RS-232 Serial Adapter

A typical bank teller station is comprised of a number of peripheral devices such as CRTs, cash drawers, card readers, check printers, and keypads. These banking peripherals have historically used a standard serial interface to the host PC. However, as the number of expansion slots available in new PCs continues to shrink, banks are increasingly turning to USB as the peripheral interface of choice. If the bank were to replace the many thousands of serial peripherals it owns with USB-based peripherals it would require an extremely high capital expenditure. Quatech USB to serial adapters provide banks with an ideal solution. These adapters can connect up to 16 peripheral devices to a host PC via the USB port, allowing banks to continue to use their existing equipment while taking advantage of the benefits USB provides.
