The market leader in shared IT systems provides integrated IT solutions to
over 500 airports and related customers worldwide relies on Quatech
RS-232 serial connectivity products to make the vital peripheral connections
for their systems. A specialized software system optimizes airport space
and facilitates systems integration among all organizations within a
given airport. The system provides end-to-end IP connectivity from host
to the airport desktop that provides airlines with secure access to
their own systems on an industry open platform. Each PC-based workstation
connects to a number of application-specific serial devices via a Quatech
RS-232 serial board. Devices include receipt printers, ticket printers,
and baggage tag printers for check-in locations, or ticket readers and
bar code scanners for security turnstiles. The workstations use a pre-integrated
browser and are connected over IP to support the individual airline
needs. Currently, these workstations are used by some 285 customers
at over 230 locations worldwide, checking-in over 580 million passengers
annually.
The Quatech board selected for a particular workstation is determined by
the type of PC being used and the number of peripherals being connected.
Currently QSC-100 serial PCI boards are used for larger desktop systems.
Our QSCLP-100 and DSCLP-100 four and two port RS-232 Universal PCI Low
Profile boards are used for thin client and other small size stations.
Because Quatech drivers for the PCI and LowProfile Universal PCI boards
are identical, no application changes are required for the different
systems.
