Introducing the next generation USB Serial Adapter - High Speed USB 2.0
Quatech Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of DPAC Technologies Corp. (OTCBB: DPAC) and a leader in 802.11 wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity solutions, today announced the upgrade of their industry-leading USB Serial Adapters with high speed USB 2.0.
Boasting speeds of up to 921 kbps, the new Quatech USB Serial Adapters enumerate themselves as standard serial ports without changes to application software or hardware. The adapters connect a single USB port to one, two, four or eight devices with RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 serial ports. Each adapter is RS-232 only or MEI (multi-electronic interface) software-selectable between RS-232/422/485.
“Quatech is proud to roll out these new high speed products for our customers,” said Steve Runkel, CEO of Quatech. “As a leader in the M2M space, we are committed to continually enhancing the features of all of our device networking and connectivity products to meet the evolving standards of the latest computer systems.”
The Quatech USB Serial Adapters deliver plug-and-play capability with optional surge suppression. Contributing to the increased speeds are high speed UARTs with 1024 FIFOs to boost data rates. Quatech USB Serial Adapters offer full modem control and hardware/software flow control and are bus powered (no external power supply needed). Embedded, board-only units are available with one, four or eight independent ports. All Quatech USB Serial Adapters (USB 2.0 versions) are now RoHS-compliant, adhering to the recent European Union policy banning lead and other hazardous substances.

Quatech Customer Success Story...
Success at Gear Manufacturer - Good Decisions based on factual data
Encountering more than 400 works orders a month, involving some 65 machine tools, plus additional operations such as deburring and outsourced subcontract requirements, juggling priorities and general production demands was becoming a time consuming nightmare for precision gear specialist and subcontract machinist Abundant Mfg.
Today, however, after installing JobPack’s Real Time Scheduling system, VP Kevin Smith said, ”We can plan and give customers realistic lead and delivery times, detect
immediately when things are not going to plan, determine the impact of any changes
we make to the production and make good management decisions based on factual
data. With the company doubling turnover in less than |
three years, the use of the
JobPack RealTime Scheduler has over the last six months made work in progress manageable, and in turn has helped to improve cash flow.”
As a result, Abundant Mfg is investing in new equipment and is looking forward to expanding its premises as well as developing its IT and specialist skills further. Located in Statesville, NC, the company has a history based on 50 years of gear cutting and it still provides a 24 / 48h emergency service, with the occasional ‘reverse engineering' task. This can include the production of single gears, crown wheel and pinion sets produced for the classic car enthusiasts.
This highly specialized knowledge of gear cutting is still core to the business, but the company is also reaping considerable success in subcontract machining involving up to five axis turning and milling. JobPack Software is running on Touch Screen PC computers on the shop floor, connected to a Win2000 server. All the confections to the CNC machine tools for DNC and document distribution is using Quatech Serial Device Servers in both four port and eight-port configurations. |

Lights, Camera, Advertising! Quatech teams with Impressionaire for digital washroom advertising
Quatech Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of DPAC Technologies Corp. (OTCBB: DPAC) and a leader in embedded 802.11 wireless OEM solutions, today announced that it was selected by Impressionaire, LLC for integration into its digital washroom advertising system.
ImpressionAire installs advertising systems in high profile, high traffic public washrooms and displays high quality digital ads that rotate every few seconds on a high tech 12” flat panel screen. The unique system uses Quatech’s Airborne Wireless Ethernet Bridge module to connect to a central server to receive instructions about the advertisements and public service announcements they are to display. The use of 802.11 wireless technology provides a significant cost savings in comparison to having to extend Ethernet cables into washroom facilities.
“Key to our decision to choose Quatech was the instant support and responsiveness that is critical to a new business,” said Linda Cordova, President of ImpressionAire. “In addition, quality and performance are paramount in a public access environment and Quatech’s products and support team easily meet our requirements.”
|
Another important reason for Quatech’s inclusion in the digital washroom advertising system is the Airborne module’s industrial class specifications. With extended operating temperatures of -40º to +85º C and added shock and vibration tolerance, the Airborne module withstands the heavy duty and repeated use of ImpressionAire’s full-featured hand dryer.
“As a leading supplier in machine-to-machine connectivity, Quatech is pleased our 802.11 wireless technology was chosen for such an innovative system,” said Steve Runkel, CEO of Quatech. “This is another example of the exploding growth in 802.11 wireless devices being deployed in common, everyday products, and Quatech is well positioned to support that growth.”
Quatech supplies its industrial class line of 802.11 wireless device servers, ethernet bridges and embedded 802.11 wireless modules to leading OEMs in the transportation, medical diagnostics, material handling and defense industries. The product line features extended operating temperatures, added shock and vibration tolerance, advanced security standards, compact form factor, low power modes and a five year warranty.
ImpressionAire digital washroom advertising systems deliver ads to two product families, full featured hand dryers and digital display screens, and can be customized for male or female washrooms and even further targeted to specific areas within the venue.
