Case Study: Gateway Self Ticketing System

Gateway Ticketing Systems chose Quatech USB to Serial Adapters to connect vital peripherals in its newest POS system release, Galaxy 2. Gateway chose Quatech for its proven ability to ensure seamless integration of serial-based POS and ticketing hardware into systems limited by USB-only expansion options.

Galaxy Admission Control and Revenue Management software is an award-winning total POS system solution designed for the recreation, entertainment and transportation industries. Galaxy 2 includes Unified POS Device Support, a unique feature that simplifies customer maintenance but also demands a robust and reliable serial communications architecture.

"We reviewed several connectivity solutions before deciding on Quatech," said Darryl Moser, vice-president of Gateway Ticketing Systems. "We chose their USB to Serial Adapters because it enabled us to connect over seven peripheral devices to each POS, where a number of ticketing-specific peripherals are offered only in serial interface. In addition, their adapters provide solid performance and proven in-field reliability at an attractive price point."

"Quatech and Gateway Ticketing Systems share an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction," said Steve Runkel, Quatech's President and CEO. "We are gratified that they have selected our USB to Serial Adapter for their Galaxy 2 system, and we are confident that our product will provide the speed and flawless performance required to ensure a positive user experience."

Gateway Application Details

Gateway uses a PC-based POS system that interfaces to a variety of serial devices, from thermal ticket printers, barcode scanners, and card readers/writers to MICR check readers and signature-capture devices. These serial devices are relatively inexpensive and are proven solutions for Gateway’s requirements.

The PC-based system that Gateway uses has USB ports in place of conventional serial ports. As a result, Gateway needed to find a cost-effective solution for connecting their
serial devices. To complicate matters, the solution had to be intuitive to install, and run seamlessly with the company’s existing POS application software.

Quatech USB serial adapters were the answer. By allowing serial ticket and receipt printers, scanners, and other serial devices to connect to the USB ports on the POS host, Gateway’s “Unified POS Device Support” system ensures effortless connection and configuration of POS and ticketing peripheral hardware. Ticket and receipt printers, scanners, and other devices are now truly plug-and-play, resulting in fast and easy installation and configuration of external hardware.
